Recording and Mixing
At Fife College the studio recording facilities are first class and so far in my HNC I have been lucky enough to have a couple of projects under my belt already. In addition, I was fortunate to be part of the sound engineering team behind an historic three day recording.

Bob Whitney and Bede Williams
A three day orchestra recording at the Laidlaw Music Centre honouring the music of Cedric Thorpe Davie, a lecturer and composer from St Andrews University. During the event I assisted Sound Engineer Bob Whitney, who briefly came out of retirement especially for this project. As well as sound engineer duties, I ended up in the percussion section with a beater in my hand... To find out more, read my blog post.

Jules - Beside You
In small groups we were tasked with sourcing and recording a musician and individually mixing and mastering a track for them to critique. This was my very first experience in this role and with only vocals and keys, this was an intimate track with nowhere to hide! Read more about it in my blog and listen to my mix here.

Jules - River and Me
Jules returned to the studio to record another track with me on my own. This time I planned everything myself, including all essential communication and documentation (such as track sheet, studio plan, health and safety brief), mic choices and recording techniques were entirely up to me. I took note of any lessons I learned from the previous recording and made informed decisions based on this.
Since the first studio recording, I have been growing more proficient in Pro Tools and again was able to use my previous experience to adapt my methods or my approaches to both the recording and editing elements involved in the project.
Stay tuned to hear the final mix!
